Proclaiming myself a member of the "new media"

Effective last week, I threw my rant blog at rickbulow1974.blogspot.com into the self-professed free press and became a (tongue in cheek) member of the free media, based on the White House's definition of what it takes to become credentialed. This "self-proclaimed membership to the free press was started by a person named nerdy conservative who operates at nerdyconservative.blogspot.com.

As I was scanning the talk radio and the cable news media outlets, I had heard a lot about blogs and how it was the bloggers who have in effect taken over the media. A few examples of this are how bloggers have helped George W. Bush win a second presidential term, spoken the truth about a false and misleading article posted on ABC News' website, how most recently they helped a Yemeni journalist secure his release, and how they're speaking in the matter of Terri Schiavo. I didn't start blogging until a few weeks ago my mom and uncle were talking about Martha Stewart's release from prison and asked me for my opinion on the subject. I was watching the cable news outlets a couple days later and I was so upset that Martha's release from prison was all they talked about for 5 straight hours that I led with it as my first rant.

My political preference and why that is my political preference

I am a die-hard conservative Republican, modelling my beliefs on those of Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. My parents are both Democrats, and prior to 1990 so was I, but after seeing how President George H.W. Bush handled the situation in Iraq after Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait I admired his handling of the situation and when I first registered to vote in 1991 I chose Republican. My mom had no problem with my political preference but my dad had a big problem with it when he asked me in September 2004 who I was going to vote for in November. When I told him that I was going to vote for George W. Bush he voiced disapointment in my choice and said that the Republicans are only looking out for the rich. I told him that I was voting for Bush based on his handling of the war on terrorism as well as the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001. He said that we should not have even gone to war in Iraq or Afghanistan and I told him that we needed to do something to combat terrorism and that Bush is taking the war to the terrorists instead of them taking the war to us.

Who is Rick Bulow?

Many of you have read my posts and/or blog online, or you may know me offline, but you're not really sure just who I am or what I like. This blog will delve into my personal life, while my other blog over at rickbulow1974.blogspot.com will deal with my rants on certain subjects. I am 5'7" tall with brown hair and eyes and a stocky build. I was born on December 30, 1974 in Chicago, Illinois. (Actually the north suburb of Berwyn but I say Chicago because I moved around.) I have Cerebral Palsy and 3rd nerve paralysis in my left eye. I am a big sports fan, mostly of the Chicago teams as well as a few teams outside of the state of Illinois. Currently I live in Florida and have lived in Florida since November, 1987. I have a younger sister who is the brains of the family. In fact, she is going for her Bachelors' Degree. I like to read, write, chat, keep up with current events, and a lot of other things which I will get into later.
